Role Introduction

OMNETRIC Group is looking for a candidate with extensive experience in delivering full scale, end-to-end Smart Grid solutions with a detailed knowledge of Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI), Meter Data Management (MDM), and Demand Response and Distributed Energy Resource Management Systems, particularly based around Siemens Smart Grid platform, EnergyIP. The candidate will work in an OMNETRIC Group team environment and provide content knowledge in a manner supporting solutioning, estimation, design, and integration through the entire delivery life-cycle.


The Solution Architect is responsible for managing customer requirements, leading workshops, analyzing business requirements, and driving functional and technical solutions through project documentation.  This role involves intensive and on-going customer interaction throughout the entire life-cycle of a project. A Solution Architect is the functional leader on the project with a high degree of technical competency and is expected to conduct requirements workshops across a variety of business functions with customers and technology partners in attendance.  A high-level of professionalism, a commitment to quality, and the ability to work with technical and non-technical individuals is a necessity to successfully define and implement a quality solution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and drive solutions across multiple business functions, processes, and technical domains
  • Manage and/or participate in project teams for driving software implementation, systems integration, and business process
  • Conduct workshops with customers on-site to gather and document "as is" and "to be" business process and solution design requirements
  • Understand business issues, their drivers, and articulate solutions including business process change, configuration change, and product enhancements
  • Analyze software and configuration requirements according to specifications to aid in the development of project plans, milestones, and estimates
  • Formally present project deliverables to customer project team members and sponsors, including senior executives
  • Field questions and deliver training on software functionality for end users
  • Develop and/or review testing strategy and use cases to ensure functional requirements are fully tested
  • Manage functional scope to reduce project risk
  • Manage the expectations of the customer or business partner
  • Develop a solution during project planning that includes architecture diagram, estimates, release plan, assumptions, and risks based on documented scope and a set of dependencies
  • Contribute to RFP responses and other sales efforts
  • Participate in business development initiatives to help grow the practice


Required Skills

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering or relevant discipline. Graduate degree a plus.
  • 7+ years experience with enterprise software projects including utility front/back office application integration
  • Full Project Lifecycle experience on a large implementation program, including definition, estimation, requirements gathering, configuration, and delivery
  • Demonstrated ability to architect and deliver solutions with minimal supervision
  • Ability to comprehend complex and interdependent business processes
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • 2+ years experience work with utility billing and Customer Information Systems (CIS), and/or operations business process and practices
  • Fundamental understanding of utility industry and smart grid/smart meter technology
  • Experienced in business process analysis and data modelling
  • Understanding of Java web applications server technology
  • Functional understanding of web presentation technologies
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • Proven training and coaching abilities
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with a diverse group of customers, partners, and colleagues
  • Ability to travel to customer sites and other business-related travel as needed (up to 75%)
  • Must have solid experience communicating with executive management
  • Solid understanding of real-time integration


Preferred Qualifications:

  • In depth knowledge of utility market structures and business processes
  • Familiarity with Smart Grid initiatives and regulation in North America
  • Systems integration experience
  • Web technology deployment, configuration and administration background
  • Experience with AMI Head End Systems and metering technology
  • Experience with utilities enterprise systems such as GIS, DMS, and OMS
  • Knowledge of Enterprise Service Bus
  • Familiarity with program and project management responsibilities
